Who We Are

Healing Guatemala is a dedicated non-profit charity organization committed to spreading the Kingdom of God among the people of Guatemala through comprehensive and holistic healing that encompasses healthcare, nutrition, and education. Many Guatemalans, particularly within the Mayan communities, often experience feelings of abandonment and neglect as they navigate their daily struggles. In times of hardship, the indifference of government services can deepen their sense of isolation, leading them to feel as though God has forgotten them.

Yet, the presence and ministries of Healing Guatemala stand as a powerful testament to the truth that God never forgets His beloved people. Through our compassionate outreach and unwavering support rooted in Christ, we strive to bring hope and healing to those in need, demonstrating that love and care in the name of Jesus can truly transform lives. Our focus on holistic healing aims to uplift communities, restore dignity, and empower individuals to rise above their circumstances. Healing Guatemala serves as a beacon of God’s remembrance, reassuring the people of Guatemala that they are cherished and that God’s love is both alive and active in their lives.

Guatemala

Guatemala, nestled alongside Mexico, is a captivating country distinguished by its breathtaking natural beauty, including majestic mountains, serene lakes, and stunning beaches. Slightly larger than the state of South Carolina, it is home to approximately 20 million people. The nation is characterized by its dramatic geography, featuring numerous volcanoes and a frequent occurrence of earthquakes that serve as reminders of the earth’s dynamic nature. The warmth and kindness of the Guatemalan people further enhance the allure of this vibrant nation, making it a destination that truly deserves exploration.

Yet, beneath this picturesque facade lies a stark reality for many, particularly for the Mayan indigenous populations, who often face systemic discrimination and are treated as second-class citizens. The enduring legacy of corruption, violence, and extreme poverty has created significant challenges within the lives of countless Guatemalans, many of whom struggle to maintain their dignity and secure access to basic human necessities.

Approximately 50 percent of Guatemala’s population lives in rural areas where poverty is deeply entrenched, especially among indigenous communities. This economic hardship severely limits their access to essential medical services. Alarmingly, Guatemala holds the highest rate of chronic malnutrition in Latin America, with around half of all children under the age of five suffering from chronic malnutrition. The situation is nearly twice as dire for indigenous children, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive support and intervention to address these critical issues and foster a healthier future for all.

Quetzaltenango

Healing Guatemala is situated in the vibrant city of Quetzaltenango, the second-largest city in Guatemala, nestled in the heart of the Western Highlands. This region is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and dense Mayan population, with Quetzaltenango boasting an approximate population of 300,000 residents. The city is surrounded by numerous smaller towns, each home to thriving Mayan Indigenous communities that contribute to the area’s unique cultural tapestry.

Quetzaltenango is steeped in history, serving as a historical center for the Mayan civilization and a crucial site for cultural and spiritual practices. Often regarded as the spiritual capital of Guatemala, it holds significant importance for the Mayan people, who view the city as a place of deep cultural roots and identity. The city’s vibrant markets, traditional festivals, and colorful textile arts reflect the enduring traditions and resilience of its Indigenous population.

In this dynamic environment, Healing Guatemala strives to bring holistic healing and support to the local communities, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment among the people of Quetzaltenango and beyond.
